A Death in the Gunj

A death in gunj is one of the great movies you might have missed in  2017,  Written and Directed by Konkana Sen Sharma. It is a story about a shy guy who escapes his failed semester through a family get together. Set in 1970s in McCluskieganj, Jharkhand . 

A Bengali family's seven day vacation, comprising nearly a dozen members, the family is meeting after a long time . The mood is joyous the family members drink freely, smoke frequently. And among this wave of festivity is Shutu, a young man with a recently decreased father, someone who's finding way to grieve is a easy target for bullies.

Starring a brilliant ensemble cast of Vikrant Massey, Tillotama Shome, Om Puri, Tanuja, Gulshan Devaiah, Kalki Koechlin, Jim Sarbh and Ranvir Shorey, the movie made its world premiere at 21st annual 2016 Toronto International Film Festival. It was chosen as the opening film at the 18th Mumbai Film Festival, where the filmmaker-actress received ‘MasterCard Best India Female Filmmaker 2016 Award.’
